Man United join Chelsea in race for €30m Serie A defender

Manchester United are in the market for a new centre-back and are scouring Italy to find their man. They may have found their man at Napoli as star defender Kalidou Koulibaly could be on the market this summer.

According to Sporting Witness via Corriere dello Sport, Manchester United were among a group of top European clubs trying to make an offer for the Napoli defender, only to be turned down. Per the source, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Monaco were the other clubs.

The 24-year-old defender from Senegal has started 29 of 30 Serie A matches for Napoli, earning Man of the Match honours three times and helping the club stake a claim to the second-fewest goals allowed in the league. He is believed to have a minimum asking price of €30 million.

Back in April, Chelsea were linked with a move for the Napoli defender as a possible replacement for the injured Kurt Zouma or departing John Terry.
