Exclusive: Chelsea transfer target looks like “one to watch” this summer, says Fabrizio Romano

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford could be one to watch this summer amid transfer rumours linking him with Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column, Romano admitted that Pickford’s situation at Everton doesn’t seem entirely certain ahead of this summer, though a potential exit from Goodison Park will hinge on what the Toffees decide to do.

Responding to the Chelsea links with Pickford, Romano also suggested the Blues had a decision to make with their goalkeepers this summer, with plenty to discuss as Kepa Arrizabalaga’s return from a loan spell at Real Madrid will undoubtedly give the club a lot of options to mull over.

Still, it’s hard to imagine Kepa going back into the Chelsea first-team after a difficult career at Stamford Bridge, while Robert Sanchez and Djorde Petrovic don’t look particularly convincing either.

Jordan Pickford to Chelsea?

Pickford transfer: Would Everton goalkeeper be an upgrade for Chelsea?

Even if it’s been a difficult season for Everton, meaning it’s been harder for Pickford to show us what he can really do, there’s surely a case for saying he could shine at Chelsea.

The England international would likely benefit from having better players around him, as he’s often done when he’s played for his country rather than his club.

Discussing the Pickford situation, Romano said: “I’m aware there have been reports of interest in signing Jordan Pickford this summer. My understanding is that Pickford’s situation could be one to watch in general, but it depends on Everton.

“At the moment I’m not aware of contacts with Chelsea but let’s see what they decide to do on the goalkeeper position in general; also Kepa will return, so there are already three important goalkeepers at the club and this will be a topic before bringing in a new one.”
