After spending several years as a youth prospect for Manchester United, Hellas Verona goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini could be set to make his return to England this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Everton have expressed interest in the 21-year-old Italian stopper as a replacement for club legend Tim Howard – who is leaving the club to join MLS side Colorado Rapids. Gollini has made 30 appearances for the club in Serie A since 2014.
Despite a strong season from Gollini, Hellas Verona were unable to escape relegation and will drop to Serie B in the 2016-17 season. The team won a league low five games, while scoring a league-low 34 goals and allowing 63.
Ironically, Howard was also a goalkeeper for Man United prior to joining the Toffees in 2007.
In addition to making over 350 appearances for Everton, Howard set a FIFA World Cup record by making 15 saves in a USMNT loss to Belgium in the knockout round.
