Although Jose Mourinho gained a reputation for not giving his young players a chance while he was at Chelsea, the Special One will have an incredible crop of teenage stars if he takes over the head job at Manchester United. Among that group are a pair of talented strikers: Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial – but Mourinho has already made his decision as to who he wants to be his main man.
According to ESPN, Mourinho has been highly impressed with Rashford and wants the 18-year-old Englishman to be his ‘key’ man if he takes over at Old Trafford next season.
Rashford, Martial and defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah have all had breakout seasons with the club as teens and their development this season has been seen as one of the lone positives in the disappointing campaign.
Mourinho’s reputation for getting rid of young talent is somewhat well-deserved. Upon returning to Chelsea in 2013, he soon sold developmental stars Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne among others, while seldom giving his young stars a chance on the starting lineup. Lukaku and De Bruyne quickly emerged as two of Europe’s best players in the two years since they were both dumped by Chelsea.
