Mario Gomez: Chelsea plot transfer hijacking of Man United target

With Manchester United planning to bring in reinforcements to the striker position this January, Fiorentina star Mario Gomez – currently on loan to Besiktas – has been one of the most recent names linked to Old Trafford. However, Chelsea appear poised to use Gomez to help save their own season.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are planning to hijack the transfer of Gomez in order to boost their frontline options. The 30-year-old striker recorded seven straight seasons scoring double-digit goals in the Bundesliga from 2006 to 2013, but in two seasons with Fiorentina he recorded a paltry total of seven league goals.

However, This season with Besiktas, Gomez has scored eight goals in 11 matches, and Fiorentina are apparently open to selling the German star.

Should Chelsea succeed, it would not be the first time this season that they managed to blindside the Red Devils. Earlier in the season, the Blues made a last-minute deal with Barcelona for Pedro in a move that infuriated Man United fans.
