Chicarito Man United: Stats show Louis van Gaal made huge mistake letting this star go

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal made the tough decision to sell Javier “Chicarito” Hernandez to Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the summer transfer window, but the move may be one of the club’s biggest regrets of the season.

Goals have been very hard to come by at Old Trafford and the club has scored just 10 goals in all competitions since the start of October. Chicarito, meanwhile, has scored 11 goals on his own in that same span.

Chicarito joined Man United in 2010 and had three straight seasons with double-digit league goals. However, he struggled to score in the 2013-14 season and the year after he was loaned out to Real Madrid. He made a few appearances for the Red Devils during the 2015-16 season – twice against Club Brugge in the Champions League playoffs and once in the Premier League against Newcastle United – before being sold to the German club.

From October through November, Chicarito recorded a goal in six consecutive appearances, racking up eight of them in that span.
