A number of managers have been linked with the Liverpool job but the Merseyside club have had to deal with several setbacks in their pursuit.

The frontrunner to replace Klopp was Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, but he has decided to stay with the Bundesliga club.

After winning the German league title and qualifying for the Champions League with his team, Alonso expressed his desire to stay with his current club.

When Liverpool turned their attention to Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, West Ham United joined the race to appoint him.

Latest reports have suggested that the Hammers are currently leading the race to appoint Amorim.

Now, according to Anfield Watch, Liverpool and Lille’s manager Paulo Fonseca have held talks.

According to the report, Fonseca and the Premier League club had informal talks earlier in the season over the management position.

Lille manager Paulo Fonseca is reportedly in talks with Liverpool.
