Man United eye £23.6m Arsenal target as Jose Mourinho’s next big transfer

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic playing coy with Manchester United, the club are continuing to find additional options to strengthen their scoring options, and Juventus striker Alvaro Morata may have just jumped to the top of the list.

According to the Metro via Marca, Mourinho wants to reunite with his former Real Madrid striker and bring him to Old Trafford before the start of the 2016-17 season.

Mourinho managed Morata during his three-year stint with Real Madrid, promoting the young striker from the academy to the B-team before giving him his debut with the first team.

Morata was sold to Juventus in 2014 and has scored 27 goals in 93 appearances for the Serie A giants in the two years since. This past year he made a career-high 47 appearances for the club as they claimed the Serie A title and Coppa Italia title.

Real Madrid are believed to be planning on buying back their former striker for £23.6 million before selling him off to the highest bidder at a markup.

Arsenal have been in pursuit of Morata for weeks now, but the club’s anticipated signing of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy may have given them a chance to reconsider.
