Manchester United will need a lot of things to break their way to secure a spot in the Champions League in the final week of Premier League football. Unfortunately, they are off to a poor start as leading scorer Anthony Martial has been ruled out of Tuesday’s match against West Ham United.
According to the Telegraph, Martial has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury he suffered in warmups prior to their 1-0 win against Norwich City this past week. Martial is also expected to be questionable for the season-finale against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
The French striker, who leads the team with nine BPL goals and 15 total goals, was pulled from the lineup prior to the match after hurting himself and was abruptly replaced by Wayne Rooney up front due to Marcus Rashford’s rest day. Rooney ultimately provided the winning assist to Juan Mata in the win over Norwich which kept the Red Devils in the Champions League hunt.
However, beating 19th-placed Norwich by one would hardly inspire Man United fans with huge games against West Ham United and Bournemouth still to play in the last week.
The fifth-place Red Devils need a minimum of three points in their last two games to have a chance at securing a Champions League berth.
Man United’s last game of the 2015-16 season will be in the FA Cup Final against Crystal Palace.
