Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been slapped with a gigantic price tag in order to stave off interest from major European clubs like Real Madrid. But should their number not be enough to prevent his transfer, Chelsea have a strong replacement target in mind: Southampton and England stopper Fraser Forster.
According to the Express, Chelsea have a £73 million price tag on Courtois but have Forster at the top of their list of potential replacements should Real Madrid pay the exorbitant fee.
Forster had one of the best stretches for a goalkeeper this year when he recorded a clean sheet in six consecutive starts. However, he has not kept a clean sheet in any of his eight starts for Southampton since his streak was broken in a 2-1 loss to Chelsea.
Even though Courtois has played seven more Premier League starts than Forster this season, the Belgian stopper has just five clean sheets – fewer than Forster.
