Thibaut Courtois’ agent revealed the reason the Belgian shot-stopper didn’t remain at Chelsea and instead pursued a move to Real Madrid.

The player’s agent revealed that the Belgian would’ve stayed at Stamford Bridge if his children were situated in London.

Courtois’ agent Christophe Henrota told BBC Radio 5:

“If the family were in London it would have been totally different. He would have stayed, there is no reason to leave a club like Chelsea”.

These words from Henrota imply that due to his children not being in the English capital, he didn’t wish to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Courtois’ agent insists that the 26-year-old has been misunderstood by many fans, with the main reasons behind Courtois’ move to Real Madrid being that the goalkeeper wanted to be with his children in Madrid.

“It is personal reasons so we have to respect this. Chelsea understood the situation and really helped to get the deal.

“They did a really quick and easy deal together, understanding the humanity of the situation. It is not doing something against their fans, it is about getting the best of a situation that is not ideal.”

Courtois spent 7 years at Chelsea making 126 Premier League appearances, keeping 48 clean sheets and went on to establish himself as one of the world’s best goalkeepers despite his young age.

During his time at Stamford Bridge Courtois was a two-time Premier League winner (2014-15, 2016-17), an English League Cup winner in 2015 and most recently a FA Cup winner, as Chelsea lifted the prestigious trophy last season in what was Antonio Conte’s final game in charge of the Blues.

Courtois also won the Premier League Golden Glove in the 2016/17 season, as he proved that year that he has what it takes to cut it against some of the best forwards the Premier League has to offer.

Following Courtois’ departure to Los Blancos, Chlesea signed Kepa Arrizabalaga for a world record £71m fee, according to BBC Sport.

Kepa looked good in the Blues’ opening league game against Huddersfield on Saturday, and it should he continue to impress, it shouldn’t be long before Courtois is forgotten about by Blues fans.
