Anthony Martial is all anyone wants to talk about at Old Trafford lately, and the energy his dominance has brought the new Premier League table leaders has been invaluable to Manchester United.
Two simple stats since Man United acquired Martial in an expensive transfer from AS Monaco show that the French wonderkid may be the catalyst for Man United’s current stretch of dominance.
First, since signing Martial on September 1st and giving him the No. 9 shirt, Man United have claimed nine out of nine points on the table. In four previous contests, Man United had claimed just seven out of a possible 12 points.
Their unbeaten record over the three-game stretch is the best in the Premier League and has catapulted them into the No. 1 spot on the table following Manchester City’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
Second, United have scored nine times in the league since bringing Martial to Old Trafford – also among the best in the EPL – with three of the goals coming from the 19-year-old starlet. Prior to Martial’s arrival, the Red Devils had just two offensive goals in the previous four matches with a third coming from an own goal in gameweek one.
And the icing on the cake from United’s big win over lowly Sunderland was the end to Wayne Rooney’s season-long scoring drought, with a 46-minute strike giving Manchester United a big lead en route to a win.
