Liverpool appointed Dutch manager Arne Slot after Jurgen Klopp’s departure despite being heavily linked with a move for Ruben Amorim.

The Dutchman, who inspired his team’s comeback against Brighton at the weekend, has taken Liverpool to the top of the league after ten matches this season, ahead of both Manchester City and Arsenal.

In ten Premier League matches, Liverpool have lost only once and their decision to appoint Slot is proving to be a masterstroke from the club.

Amorim has joined Manchester United after the Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag following a disappointing start to the season.

Football pundit Jamie Carragher has discussed the reason behind the Reds choosing Slot over Amorim.

Writing in his column in the Telegraph, Carragher revealed:

“My suspicion is that one of the reasons Liverpool favoured Slot over Amorim last summer is because the Dutchman prefers the more traditional four at the back, so the transition was easier for the squad he inherited.

“Under Jurgen Klopp, the style of the first team was mirrored down to academy level to ensure those who made the step up were familiar with the playing patterns.”

Amorim will now have the biggest test of his career after being appointed the new manager of Man United and the Red Devils have already been warned about giving too much freedom to the manager.

His success with Sporting has not gone unnoticed and the fact that he ended the club’s 19 year drought for the league title is something that has caught eyeballs across the football world.

Arne Slot has proved to be the ideal manager for Liverpool

Liverpool are more than satisfied with the decision they have made and Slot’s philosophy and playing style has worked well for the club as it is similar to what Klopp had deployed at Anfield.

The results and the performances of the players, particularly of Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch, who have arguably been their best players this season, has shown that Slot is the right fit for them.

It remains to be seen how Amorim performs at Man United now and whether he will play with a back three at Old Trafford, just like he has always done in his career.

The Portuguese manager is set to take charge of the club from 11th November. With Man United sitting in the bottom half of the table and making their worst ever start to a Premier League season, the 39-year-old already has a mountain to climb.
