(Video) Thomas Tuchel speaks as England manager for first time; delivers exciting World Cup message

Thomas Tuchel has spoken for the first time since being appointed England manager.

The 51-year-old was pursued by the English FA following Gareth Southgate’s resignation at the end of the summer’s Euros in Germany.

Although Lee Carsley has stepped up from leading the under-21s to take charge on an interim basis, the 50-year-old was always an outsider to take the role permanently.

Carlsey will remain in charge for the Three Lions’ upcoming November Nations League fixtures with Tuchel set to take over from the New Year.

And breaking his silence for the first time since his appointment, the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss sent fans an exciting message.

England have not won the World Cup since 1966 but Tuchel has hopes of delivering a second trophy in 18 months time.

“I can promise you I’m very excited,” the German told the FA.

“I’m very honoured and I will do everything to qualify for the World Cup, first of all, and then we have a successful World Cup – try to get a second star on our shirts.”
