“I don’t really know” – Jamie Carragher makes worrying claim about Liverpool star’s future

Liverpool are currently top of the league and it seems like nothing is going wrong for them on the pitch.

However, there have been questions about issues off the pitch with some of their players entering the final year of their contract at the club.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk all have their contracts expiring at the end of the season and their future at Anfield remains uncertain.

The Reds would hate to lose all those players on a free transfer next year and considering how well they have performed this season under Slot, it would be a disaster for the club if their future is not resolved soon.

Former Liverpool defender and football pundit Jamie Carragher has now discussed the future of the three key members of the Liverpool starting line up.

Carragher particularly has concerns about Alexander-Arnold and his future at the club and he has claimed that he has no idea what is holding up his contract extension.

“With Trent, I don’t really know what the hold-up would be”, the former Red told Liverpool.com.

“I’m sure Liverpool is gonna make him one of the highest-paid players or maybe the highest-paid player at the club and in the Premier League. That’s where he should be. He’s that great of a talent. It’s just whether he is looking at pastures new maybe.

“Because I’m sure top clubs would be sniffing around him. I think with the other two, yes they could leave on a free and go somewhere else, but I think it’d be difficult to go to many places better than Liverpool in terms of chances of winning the Champions League right now.

“I might be wrong, but I don’t think sort of Real Madrid would be looking at Salah or Van Dijk and not because they’re not good enough but just, you know, their age. But I would imagine they’re looking at Trent. There’s been rumors of that so I’m less comfortable.

“Listen, you have to be less confident the longer it goes on because the club wants nothing more than to announce that these three players have signed or certainly Trent has.

“No one wants this over their head or dragging on. So the longer it goes, the less confident I will be.”

Liverpool cannot afford to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid are closely monitoring Alexander-Arnold and his future at Anfield.

The longer Liverpool leave it to agree a new contract with their players, the more uncertainty will increase surrounding their future.

In January, all three of them are free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs and that would put Liverpool in a weak position when it comes to negotiating with the players.

The club’s performances and form have shown this season how important those three players are for the club, particularly Alexander-Arnold , who is only 25-years-old at the club and has a lot of football left in his career.

The English right-back is a boyhood Liverpool fan and he would love to stay at the club provided the club can meet his demands and his ambitions.
