Arne Slot knows exactly when Liverpool can be considered Premier League title contenders

Life for Arne Slot at Liverpool has got off to a promising start and following the Reds’ win over Wolves on Saturday, the Dutch coach has shared how many games he thinks need to be played before his team can be considered Premier League title contenders.

The consensus heading into the 2024/25 campaign was that current holders Man City and Arsenal will do battle again for the title of champions of England after Liverpool fell away in the race last time around.

With a new coach arriving at Anfield, it was hard to see the Merseyside club challenging this season but with the start Arne Slot’s team has made to the campaign, many may be changing their view.

Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League standings after six games, one point ahead of Man City and Arsenal. Although the Reds’ fixtures to start the campaign have been favourable, the Merseyside outfit have looked like a very organised and threatening team.

It is still too early to determine if Liverpool can challenge for the title but the signs are there.

Slot’s team were underwhelming against Wolves on Saturday but still came away from Molineux with three points after a 2-1 win. Winning when not at your best is often the sign of champions and Liverpool’s new boss knows exactly when his team can be considered title contenders.

Are Liverpool in the Premier League title race?

Since arriving at Liverpool, Slot has been very open and honest about his team and that was no different after their win at Wolves when talking about his side’s title prospects after just six games.

“Everybody is realistic enough to know that six games into the season doesn’t give you a realistic view of the league table,” the Dutch coach said via The Athletic.

“It’s more at 19 games when you feel where you are. But of course, good results help, especially after bringing in a new manager and a new staff. If we had lost four or five of the first six then life would have been different to how it is now.”

19 games is the halfway mark of the Premier League season and should Liverpool be top of the table by then, Slot will be preparing his men for a title charge throughout the second half of the campaign.
