Spurs fans will love what Peter Crouch has said about Europa League chances, but PL outlook is bleak

Peter Crouch has named Tottenham Hotspur as ‘favourites’ to win this season’s Europa League.

Despite the top four being within their grasp at multiple points, Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League last season in Ange Postecoglou’s debut campaign in charge.

As a result, they enter a Europa League field packed with quality, with the likes of Manchester United, Roma, Athletic Club, Porto, Ajax, Lazio and Eintracht Frankfurt battling it out for the title — to name just a few heavyweights.

Crouch names Spurs Europa League ‘favourites’

Tottenham’s 2024/25 Premier League campaign hasn’t got off to the best start, with defeats to Arsenal and Newcastle and a draw against Leicester meaning they’ve taken just seven points from five games so far; beating Everton and Brentford.

Spurs fans will be disappointed to see their ex-striker Crouch already ruling them out of the Premier League title race, while he doesn’t seem to rate their chances of breaking into the top four.

However, they likely wouldn’t care about a mediocre league return if they won the Europa League, which would end their 16-year wait for a major trophy and deliver their first European title since 1984.

“The Premier League is not looking like it’s achievable — top four potentially,” Crouch told TNT Sports (via BBC Sports).

“They are favourites in this competition. As you go deeper into the competition there will become a chance for Tottenham to have an impact in this competition.”
