(Video) Forget Rice: Arsenal goal doesn’t happen without 17-y/o sensation & hilarious Bolton mishap

Declan Rice will take much of the plaudits for his terrific long-range strike to open the scoring for Arsenal in their Carabao Cup clash against Bolton.

The England international struck well from just outside the 18-yard box after a loose ball somehow found its way to his feet despite a near intervention from Scott Arfield.

However, not all the credit can go to the former West Ham enforcer. The 25-year-old had more than a helping hand from highly-rated youngster Ethan Nwaneri (17) who fizzed a low cross from the right flank.

Arfield should, in truth, be feeling more than a little sheepish at his failure to clear the danger (and the eventual goal) after completely mishitting his attempted clearance.

A nightmare for the Bolton man and pure elation for Rice.

UPDATE: Nwaneri turns from creator to goalscorer to double the Gunners’ lead before the half-time break at the Emirates Stadium.

It’s the young midfielder’s first goal contribution of the 2024/25 season following a four-minute Premier League cameo.
