Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has claimed that Chelsea would consider selling midfielder Cole Palmer.

The England international has been one of the best players in the Premier League since joining the club from Manchester City.

The young midfielder scored 25 goals for Chelsea in his debut season at the club, winning Premier League Young player of the year award for his brilliant performances.

He is now a regular part of the England setup and under former manager Gareth Southgate, helped the team reach the Euro 2024 final.

Merson has claimed that the Blues would cash in on him if he becomes a £100m player.

Merson told Sky Sports:

‘They just need to worry about results on the pitch but I still don’t know the plan. I still don’t know the plan.

‘Nicolas Jackson is there until 2033. If Jackson scores 25 goals next season, they will sell him. That’s the whole idea.

‘If Cole Palmer becomes unbelievable and keeps on doing what he is doing, then he will be a £100m player. They will sell him for £100m.

‘That’s how it works, they don’t want all these players to run their contracts out.’

With one goal and four assists so far this season, the young Chelsea star has started the new season in fine form.

The Blues midfielder is the main creative force of the team and his contribution with goals is an added bonus for them.

Chelsea would not sell Cole Palmer any time soon

The claim made by Merson appears a bit over the top, since Chelsea would not consider selling Palmer for a very long time, considering how important he is to the club.

He is not only a top performer on the pitch but his presence has created excitement among the fan base for a bright future.

The Blues struggled last season and have made a slow start to this season under new manager Enzo Maresca, but with their young players showing promise, the fans are hopeful that the club can turnaround their fortunes.
