Despite Manchester United having an eventful transfer window, they still missed out on some of their transfer targets.

The Red Devils did not hesitate in splashing the cash this summer to strengthen the squad.

Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro were the first two arrivals at Old Trafford this summer and soon they were joined by Bayern Munich’s defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Midfielder Manuel Ugarte completed the spending spree of the club, in what was a highly successful transfer window for the club.

However, they failed to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite even after making two offers for him (via BBC).

According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are looking to reignite their interest in the English defender.

Man United had two bids rejected for the Everton defender this summer and they eventually signed Yoro and De Ligt.

Branthwaite was the one of the first few players they were linked with since the arrival of INEOS at the club.

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite to Man United?

They are still keeping an eye on the talented, young centre-back, with a view to making a move for him next year.

Everton stood their ground and rejected the offers from Man United this summer but with the club sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table and their future in the top flight looking highly uncertain, a move away from Goodison Park may not be far away for Branthwaite.

At a young age, the defender has shown maturity and ability to consistently perform every week.

Man United will have to pay huge fee to sign Everton defender

The player has three years remaining in his contract at the club and the Toffees will demand closer to £70m to part ways with the defender.

Even after selling deadwood in the squad this summer, the Red Devils might consider allowing the likes of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire leave in the near future.

Their departure could create a space in the defensive setup of the team and a new defender will be needed to fill the gap in the squad.

Branthwaite could be the ideal choice for the Red Devils but they will have to dig deep in their pockets to sign him.
