Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann believes Arsenal star Kai Havertz has the potential to become world class in multiple positions.
Havertz has started the season strongly with two goals and an assist in Arsenal’s first three Premier League games and was on the scoresheet for Germany as they thrashed Hungary 5-0 in the Nations League on Saturday night.
The 25-year-old put in an impressive performance in the free role he was deployed in behind West Ham’s Niclas Fullkrug and Borussia Dortmund’s Maximilian Beier.
Nagelsmann’s high praise for Havertz
Nagelsmann was impressed with Havertz’s performance and believes he’s got the potential to become world class in multiple positions.
“Kai has made a big leap forward in the last two years,” he told reporters.
“He has the potential to be world class in many positions.
“He runs an incredible amount and has become very clever. He sometimes lacks a bit of finishing luck.
“The co-captaincy is good for him. He is a smart person, very reflective. He is very modest. I hope he continues to believe in himself.”
The former Chelsea man has a very good record for the national team and in 52 appearances has scored 19 goals and provided 15 assists.
The German international was highly regarded during his time with Bayer Leverkusen and ended up making a big money switch to Chelsea.
Despite showing glimpses of his quality and scoring the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final, it never really happened for Havertz at Stamford Bridge and he made a surprise switch to the Emirates last summer.
Havertz now appears to have found his feet in the Premier League with the Gunners and has 16 goals and eight assists in 54 appearances for the club.
There’s no doubt the German possesses a lot of quality, but the task for him is to deliver on a consistent basis and influence big games for both club and country.
