Liverpool set three month deadline to decide soon-to-be free agent’s future

Liverpool do not want to lose one of their most important players on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Reds have three key players all in their final years. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Mo Salah are all eligible to negotiate pre-contracts with clubs outside of England from January.

And while the futures of Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk remain up in the air amid their links to Real Madrid and Saudi Arabia, respectively, there is hope Salah’s situation can be resolved soon.

Liverpool want Mo Salah decision soon

The Egyptian, who was subject to a huge £150 million bid from Al Ittihad last summer, recently spoke about this year being his last at Anfield.

Mo Salah in action for Liverpool.

“I was coming to the game, I was saying, ‘look, it could be the last time’,” the forward told Sky Sports following Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Man United last weekend.

“Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season’.

And in light of the forward’s comments, Liverpool, according to a recent report from Football Insider, have been forced to take action with the club now preparing to begin contract negotiations with the prolific 32-year-old.

Wanting Salah’s future decided before the New Year, Liverpool are set to move quickly in tying the winger down on new terms — and they’re confident an agreement can be reached.

Salah’s current contract, which he signed in 2022, sees him the Reds’ highest earner on a whopping £350,000-per week (Spotrac).
