Leeds forward only stayed at Elland Road in the summer because of his wages

Leeds United have a massive wage bill despite offloading a number of prominent names from their team this summer.

The Whites have sold Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, Glen Kamara, Georginio Rutter and many others this summer.

Even after that, they have a huge squad, which is filled with the same players who represented them in the Premier League the last time.

Some more players could have and should have left the club this summer and one of them is Joe Gelhardt.

The player has not started for the Whites in more than a year and his future at the club remains uncertain.

His situation at the club in terms of playing time is likely to remain the same, which makes it confusing why he decided to stay at the club.

Transfer news specialist Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News that the player’s wages stopped him from leaving Elland Road this summer.

He said: “I think so, but he [Gelhardt] is on huge money at Leeds. That is the reason he is still at Leeds, he’s being paid far too much money. He got Premier League wages.

“He might play apart but I don’t envisage it that much between now and January. Not that you wish ill on anyone, but you’d hope he isn’t needed between now and January.”

Sooner or later, the player will have to make a decision on his future and leave the club to play first team football.

His career growth will stop unless he gets more playing time.
