Fabrizio Romano offers an important detail on the Pep Guardiola quitting Man City story

Posted by

There’s little doubt that Pep Guardiola is the best coach of his generation, and some would suggest he’s the best ever.

The current Man City manager has certainly changed the way in which football in England has been played. Ditto his time in Spain with Barcelona and in Germany with Bayern Munich.

He may not be everyone’s cup of tea but he gets results.

Pep Guardiola remains at Man City… for now

For example, if City were to go on and win another Premier League title, it would be their seventh in eight years, with only Liverpool breaking up their epic run in 2020 – a season where City finished second.

That is astonishing consistency and hasn’t been seen to this extent before in the English top-flight.

The question for Guardiola is how long he wants to keep going before he either takes a sabbatical like former Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, or decides to take on a new challenge.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola may leave the club at the end of the season

Fabio Capello had apparently suggested in Italian media that Guardiola was going to leave City at the end of the season, and Fabrizio Romano gave a little extra detail to the rumours.

“I understand Fabio Capello has hinted that Pep Guardiola could leave Man City next summer,” he said to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing.

“I’ve zero information on this now guys, it’s not a topic for August. Pep will decide later, not in August or early September.

“I respect Fabio Capello of course but again, zero concrete information on Guardiola now, it’s all speculation.”

The motivation clearly needs to be there for Guardiola to want to continue, and only he will know when he feels like he has taken the squad as far as he can.

He could also decide to walk if any alleged wrongdoing over the 115 charges that City are currently awaiting a hearing on are proven.
