Newcastle United are keen on signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer.

The 24-year-old England international has established himself as a reliable performer in the Premier League and naturally, the top clubs are keen on signing him.

Newcastle need to improve defensively and Guehi could prove to be a quality acquisition for them. However, signing him will not be simple for the Magpies. They have already failed with multiple offers to sign the Englishman and it seems that they are looking at potential alternatives.

According to a report from INews, Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez are on the radar.

Chalobah and Gomez could be on the move

Both players might need to leave their respective clubs to play regularly and moving to Newcastle could be ideal for them. Chalobah has struggled for regular game time at Chelsea and he needs to leave the club to play more often. He is capable of slotting in as a central defender as well as a full-back. He could be a useful player for Newcastle if they can get the deal done. Given his stature at Chelsea, he could be available for a reasonable price as well.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will not be able to offer Gomez regular starting opportunities either. The 27-year-old defender is certainly one of the best central defenders in the league and he could transform Newcastle at the back. He is versatile enough to operate us as a full-back as well as a defensive midfielder.

The two players are likely to cost a lot less compared to Guehi. It will be interesting to see if Newcastle decide to follow up on their interest with an official proposal to sign these players. They will need to tighten up at the back if they want to secure Champions League qualification this season.
