Liverpool are reportedly admirers of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as they could bring in a new defensive signing before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Reds may find themselves a little short of options at the back as Joe Gomez and Sepp van den Berg could both leave, and The Athletic have suggested that they have some interest in Palace and England star Guehi, who has also been tracked by Newcastle United.

Guehi has shone for Palace and also emerged as one of the real positives for England at Euro 2024, so it’s hardly surprising that there’s been so much interest in him, though The Athletic suggest that he might be too expensive for Newcastle, who are now exploring alternative targets in that position.

That could be good news for Liverpool if they step up their interest in Guehi, though CaughtOffside sources understand that the Reds’ main target for the end of the window could be Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio, even if there is not felt to be any particular desperation to bring anyone in.

Guehi transfer: Should Liverpool make their move?

Guehi certainly seems like one of the better defenders on the market at the moment, with the 24-year-old looking like someone who is surely ready to make the step up from a club like Palace.

It’s easy to imagine the former Chelsea youngster doing well at a club like Liverpool, who also surely need to be targeting younger players to replace the ageing Virgil van Dijk.

While someone like Inacio is also a top prospect, Guehi has the advantage of having already proven himself in the Premier League, so it would likely be easier for him to settle in and make an impact straight away.

Newcastle could have made a real statement by signing Guehi, but now LFC fans will surely be hoping their club takes this opportunity.
