Excited Erik Ten Hag promises fans ‘composed’ new signing ‘can do much more’

Manchester United got their 2024-25 season off to a winning start.

The Red Devils hosted Fulham at a sold-out Old Trafford in the first game of the Premier League on Friday night.

Coming into the game, the pressure was on Erik Ten Hag, who had seen a ‘we’re not ready‘ press conference quote taken out of context.

However, the Dutchman handled his critics expertly despite fielding a starting team without an outright striker. Mason Mount and captain Bruno Fernandes played as two False 9’s with Marcus Rashford and Amad operating in wide positions.

Erik Ten Hag excited by Noussair Mazraoui debut

There was also a debut for new signing Noussair Mazraoui.

Noussair Mazraoui enjoyed a decent Manchester United debut against Fulham.

The Moroccan joined from Bayern Munich just days ago and was immediately thrust into the limelight. The 26-year-old put in an impressive performance though, and his manager was very complimentary of his efforts after the game.

“He’s a great defender, but, as I said before the game, also very composed on the ball; attacking,” the United boss told the club.

“He’s not in full condition in this moment. When he gets 100 per cent fitness he can do much more, but I’m very pleased with his performance. He kept for 70-75 minutes, and now he has to build his fitness.”

Mazraoui’s move from Bayern is reported to have cost United £17 million; a fee Red Devils fans will admire given their history of overpaying for players in the past.
