Newcastle interfering in Chelsea deal; possible hijack on the cards

Conor Gallagher is set to join Atletico Madrid.

Newcastle United are reportedly preparing to hijack Atletico Madrid’s deal to sign Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

The England midfielder has been this summer’s biggest transfer saga. Although wanted by multiple clubs, it appeared Diego Simeone’s side had won the race after agreeing to a £34 million deal.

However, with Gallagher’s switch hinging on Samu Omorodion moving the other way and the striker’s deal collapsing at the last hour, the 24-year-old has been left in limbo.

Newcastle United to hijack Conor Gallagher deal?

And according to a recent report from Fichajes, while Chelsea work tirelessly to salvage the transfer, which could now see Joao Felix return to Stamford Bridge, Eddie Howe’s interest is mounting.

There appears to be growing confidence the Geordies can hijack the deal and provide the midfielder with a much-needed solution to his future — something that the player must find incredibly frustrating as the new season is now just days away.

Conor Gallagher still doesn’t know where he will be playing next season.

Nevertheless, with the Magpies well placed to scupper Atletico Madrid’s plans, Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell will be working overtime to ensure they can capture one of this summer’s most in-demand players.

During his two years in Chelsea’s first team, Gallagher, who has just 12 months left on his contract, has scored 10 goals and registered 10 assists in 95 games in all competitions.
