Liverpool are keen on signing the Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi this summer.
The 25-year-old central midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League and Liverpool are keen on securing his signature.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool have been granted permission to speak to the midfielder and his agents regarding a summer move. They are yet to open talks with the La Liga club.
The midfielder has a €60 million release clause in his contract and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool are prepared to pay up. Real Sociedad will not want to let him leave easily and they could demand the release clause to be paid in full.
Liverpool need to bring in a quality central midfielder and Zubimendi would be a solid acquisition. He has proven himself in La Liga and he has the physical and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League as well.
Zubimendi could fill the void left by Thiago
Liverpool need a midfield controller after the departure of Thiago Alcantara and Zubimendi certainly fits the profile. The 25-year-old is at the peak of his powers and he will look to compete at the highest level. Liverpool could provide him with that platform. They have consistently fought for major trophies in recent seasons and they have a talented squad and a charismatic manager.
It will be interesting to see if the Premier League side are willing to break the bank for him now. They will need to improve the other areas of their squad as well, and paying €60 million for the Spanish international midfielder might prove to be difficult.
With that said, he is already operating at a top level and he recently helped his country win the European championships. He has shown his quality in La Liga as well and he might end up justifying the investment in the long run.
