It is a summer of change at Chelsea and the Blues have made some big changes at the club.
After last season ended, the club decided to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino and began their search for his successor.
They decided to appoint manager Enzo Maresca from Leicester City and soon after his arrival, the Blues signed midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from the Foxes.
Along with their double raid on newly promoted Leicester, Chelsea have managed to sign Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Caleb Wiley, Renato Veiga, Omari Kellyman and Filip Jorgensen.
The Blues have strengthened all the positions and they have no intention to stop their transfer business any time soon.
However, one key member of the Chelsea first team faces an uncertain future at the club under Maresca.
Ben Chilwell’s future at Stamford Bridge is in doubt and the Chelsea management are still trying to find a position for him.
The left-back is not ideally suited to the style of play that Maresca has decided to deploy at the club.
The Chelsea boss spoke to the journalists about Chilwell, as reported by the Daily Mail.
‘Chilly is a left-back, for sure. I see him as I’ve always seen him like a left full-back.’
Maresca’s playing style will require the full-backs to invert and come to the midfield.
The Italian said when asked if Chilwell can play that role:
‘His situation is a bit delicate in terms of we are trying to find a solution for him in terms of position. But he probably needs a bit of time. Delicate in terms of finding the right position for him.
‘We want players that can perform 100 per cent and for sure in these two or three weeks, Malo (Gusto) and Reece (James) can both do the work required of them and both finish with more assists or more dangerous in the way they were being used in the past because in that position they are good enough to make last passes because their quality, they are both very good.’
Ben Chilwell’s future at Chelsea is in doubt
The English defender has a contract at Chelsea that runs until 2027.
The latest comments from the manager are not encouraging and Chilwell would be worried about his future at the club.
The club’s other left-back, Marc Cucurella, was one of Spain’s best players in their Euro 2024 win and he would have hugely impressed the new manager, which is bad news for Chilwell and his future at Stamford Bridge.
