Arsenal are hoping to get a deal done for the Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori this week.

According to Football Insider, talks between the two clubs have reached an advanced stage and Arsenal are very confident of getting the deal done in the coming days.

Personal terms have already been agreed upon with the 22-year-old, Italian international defender, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal can secure his signature quickly.

The Italian is regarded as one of the finest defensive prospects in European football right now, and he has established himself as an important player for club and country. Calafiori is a left-sided central defender who can operate as the left-back as well. He could prove to be the ideal long-term acquisition for Arsenal. He could form a solid partnership with William Saliba at the heart of the defence. The 22-year-old will be, available to use as a backup left-back as well.

Meanwhile, the Italian defender has a contract with Bologna until 2027 and the Serie A side are demanding a substantial amount of money for his services. He is likely to cost around £42 million if the reports are to be believed.

Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal?

Riccardo Calafiori could be a future star

Arsenal have put together an exceptional squad for the future and signing another prodigious young talent could prove to be a step in the right direction. He could develop into a world-class player with the right guidance, and he could easily justify the investment in the coming seasons.

Arsenal missed out on the league title in the last two seasons and they will be hoping to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title once again. They will be desperate to go all the way this time around and quality players will certainly help them get over the line.
