Exclusive: “Newcastle have no power” – Fabrizio Romano’s significant update on Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes to Man City?

He’s long been one of if not the most important player for Newcastle United, but the next few weeks could be crucial for Bruno Guimaraes’ future at St. James’ Park.

The Brazilian has consistently shown his worth to Eddie Howe and his team-mates with a series of commanding performances in the centre of the Magpies midfield.

Whether providing a supplementary presence in attack, breaking up play in midfield or getting back to help his defenders, Guimaraes can be relied upon to give 100 percent in every game.

Bruno Guimaraes release clause is still valid

And yet, he could walk away from the club this summer and there won’t be a thing that Howe or the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) can do about it.

Despite their evident riches, no amount of money in the world will be able to keep the player at St. James’ Park if a club should come calling for his services in the next fortnight.

“The situation hasn’t changed at Newcastle. They will try their best to keep their stars as Howe said,” Fabrizio Romano said to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing.

“For Bruno Guimaraes, there’s a release clause and that’s it – Newcastle have no power whatsoever until June 23, which is the day when the clause will expire.

“On any other player, it’s quiet now but things depend on the proposals as always.”

At present, fortunately for anyone connected with the Magpies, no clubs appear to have stepped forward to start talks with the Brazilian.

Given that his release clause is believed to be as high as £100m, that may be putting potential suitors off, despite Guimaraes showing that he’d be worth every penny.

Release clauses now appear to be a regular part of contract negotiations in the modern game, with agents clearly advising their clients as to their insertion, given that other opportunities could reveal themselves in the future and without a release clause, the player would be forced to stay put, even against his will.

Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly happy in Newcastle, and so the next two weeks will be an interesting time indeed.
