Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer.
The Blues are looking for a new goalkeeper as confirmed by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Martinez, 31, is said to be the Blues’ top target as they want to add more goalkeeping alternatives in spite of Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic’s arrival last summer.
Although Mauricio Pochettino now clearly favours the latter between the sticks, Chelsea are eager to get an upgrade on Sanchez.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper has been in fine form for Unai Emery’s team, who have managed to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
They will participate in the Champions League next season after a successful season under the Europa League winning manager.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Dan Bardell has some bad news for the Blues, cooling down rumours of the goalkeeper joining Chelsea.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, the journalist said:
“If Chelsea were to offer ridiculous money it may tempt Villa because PSR is a thing and is a worry. I don’t think there’s any sort of offer where Martinez would want to go and I don’t really think that Villa would entertain anything.
“I would say there is more chance of me signing to be back up to Emi Martinez than Martinez signing for Chelsea. He isn’t going to go and he certainly isn’t going to go there.”
Martinez has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, let alone the Premier League.
The Argentinian helped his country win the World Cup and the Copa America and since then he hasn’t looked back.
Martinez has no intention to leave Aston Villa
After spending most of his career struggling to make a place for himself at Arsenal, the goalkeeper has shown his quality since joining Villa.
He is highly valued by the Premier League club and they have no intention of selling him at this point.
Martinez would want to play Champions League football with Villa next season after helping them qualify for Europe’s elite competition.
