The last eight of European football’s secondary competition was decided on Thursday night, with both English representatives, Liverpool and West Ham, seeing off Sparta Prague and Freiburg respectively and thereby earning themselves a spot in the Europa League quarter-final draw.
Mo Salah hit a record breaking goal for the Reds, whilst Mo Kudus scored a breathtaking solo effort to help their sides qualify.
They were joined by Benfica who triumphed at Ibrox, though it would take a VAR call to decide the goal that ended Rangers’ involvement in the competition.
Bayer Leverkusen snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after scoring two injury-time goals to beat minnows, Qarabag, whilst Marseille also joined the party thanks to a big first leg win against Villarreal which made a second leg loss irrelevant.
Italian teams made up the bulk of the draw, with Roma, Milan and Atalanta all qualifying.
