Manchester United winger Antony may have been linked with a loan move back to Brazil with Flamengo, but Fabrizio Romano is unsure about these transfer rumours.
It’s been a difficult spell for Antony at Old Trafford since his move from Ajax last season, and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him move on at the end of this disappointing second season at the club.
However, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest column for the Daily Briefing, Romano explained that Antony is not necessarily that likely to accept a proposal from a Brazilian club, having just turned down something similar in January.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Antony and things can change quickly in football, but for the moment it seems Romano is unconvinced that the 24-year-old would change his mind about this kind of decision so quickly.
Antony transfer latest: Fabrizio Romano unsure about Flamengo loan links
Responding to the latest Antony stories, Romano said: “There have been further reports about Antony’s situation at Manchester United, with claims from Brazil that Flamengo are analysing a possible one-year loan move for the winger.
“I would take this with a pinch of salt, however, as Antony firmly rejected any option from Brazil in January. Let’s see if that changes in the summer, but right now there’s nothing taking place and I’m not even sure he would change his mind and accept that just five months later.”
Antony looked such an exciting talent when he first joined Man Utd but time is really running out for him now to turn his career in English football around.
Romano recently suggested MUFC would now be open to letting Antony go, whilst fuelling speculation that Crystal Palace star Michael Olise could be an option to replace the Brazil international this summer.
