As one door seemingly closes for an experienced West Ham ace, another opens for one of Man United’s new kids on the block.
Such is the way of football that you’re only as good as your last game, and in Kalvin Phillips’ case, that’s not very good at all.
His first touch for West Ham gifted a goal to Bournemouth, another poor piece of control handed Man United a goal at Old Trafford, and last time out at Nottingham Forest, the on-loan star got himself sent off.
It’s hardly the best start to life in East London for a player whose career was stagnating at Man City.
Despite not being able to force his way into Pep Guardiola’s starting XI, Phillips had retained his position in the international set up thanks to Gareth Southgate’s loyalty.
However, the England manager has options in the position and though it was believed with more game time between now and the end of the 2023/24 campaign, Phillips would be a shoo-in for the European Championship squad, that may not be the case now.
According to the Daily Mail, Southgate is running the rule over United’s young superstar teen, Kobbie Mainoo.
Everton‘s James Garner and Fulham‘s Harrison Reed are apparently also being considered, meaning that unless Phillips can get his act together, he could face missing out.
I would go for Kobi and James..
