During Aston Villa’s narrow 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Villa Park, BBC 5 Live pundit Clinton Morrison lauded the performances of Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara, despite Unai Emery’s side ending up on the losing side.

Aston Villa found themselves trailing to Rasmus Hojlund’s goal in the first half, but Douglas Luiz stepped up once again for Unai Emery’s side, equalising in the 67th minute. However, their efforts were ultimately in vain as Scott McTominay’s header secured a late winner for Manchester United, sealing a 2-1 victory and narrowing the gap between 5th and 6th place in the Premier League table.

The defeat leaves Aston Villa in 5th place in the Premier League table, while Manchester United sit in 6th and five points behind Villa.

The midfield battle was indeed crucial in determining the outcome of the match, and Aston Villa’s duo of Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara experienced both highs and lows while operating in the engine room.

With an impressive 94% passing accuracy (SofaScore) against United, Kamara demonstrated his strength in possession, while his counterpart ventured forward to score Villa’s equaliser and his seventh Premier League goal of the season.

The former striker Clinton Morrison heaped praise on the Aston Villa midfield pairing during his commentary on BBC 5 Live.

“It’s a positive change, Kamara has done well, he’s a good player. Him and Douglas Luiz have been fantastic this season.”

He later claimed: “Douglas Luiz is one of the best players in the league, people will call me insane but he delivers so often when Aston Villa need him.”
