Paul Pogba has so far struggled to hit top form for Manchester United

The first goal of the Premier League season has been scored against Leicester City for a record-breaking 3rd time in a row, as Caught Offside can reveal.

Claude Puel’s team are currently in action at Old Trafford against Manchester United for the opening game of the 2018/19 Premier League season and in conceding the first goal of the game Leicester have broken a bizarre record.

The Red Devils are 2-0 up going into the last portion of the game, leading from a Paul Pogba penalty kick in the 3rd minute and a rare Luke Shaw goal in the second half. For the opener, Daniel Amartey was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area, giving the Frenchman the chance to open his account for the new season and he duly obliged, firing home after an extravagantly long run-up.

This time last year, it was Alexandre Lacazette putting the ball into the back of the Leicester net in the Premier League curtain raiser and the season before that it was Hull City’s Adama Dimonade.

If the Foxes go on to lose tonight then this strange and unwanted new record will be of little consolation to the players, who had been looking to cause an upset and get their league campaign off to a flying start.

Since their unbelievable title victory back in 2016, the glory has quickly faded at the club and they have slipped back into midtable, finishing 9th last term. Star winger Ryad Mahrez also left the club this summer to join Manchester City and supporters might be bracing themselves for a difficult year if they get off to a losing start.
