Recent speculation has linked AC Milan with a swoop for either Adrien Rabiot or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and technical director Leonardo has now addressed those rumours.
Milan will head into the new campaign with renewed optimism after adding Gonzalo Higuain and Mattia Caldara to the squad last week, as they attempt to break into the top four.

As seen last season though, they lacked the overall quality and depth needed to compete on multiple fronts, with Gennaro Gattuso limited in his ability to rotate and encourage competition for places.
One of the key areas which arguably needs the most attention next is the midfield, with preferred trio Giacomo Bonaventura, Lucas Biglia and Franck Kessie relied on heavily last season to carry the workload and offer a real balance in the heart of the side.
After reports linked the Rossoneri with a move for one of Milinkovic-Savic or Rabiot, as noted by Calciomercato, Leonardo has ultimately rubbished them, which may well disappoint supporters given the quality that the duo possess.
“If we can find a way – within the rules – to pull off a miracle and sign a player who will bring a lot to the team then we’ll try to do it. But we may not be able to,” he told the media during Paolo Maldini’s press conference to announce his return, as quoted by Calciomercato.
“Milinkovic-Savic is a dream for many teams, unfortunately right now dreaming about a player who is worth so much is not possible for us.
“Adrien Rabiot? He’s a great player, but there’s been no contact at the moment.”
Leonardo did arguably offer a glimmer of hope on both fronts, but it does sound unlikely with player sales perhaps needed first to balance the books and ensure that the Italian giants stay on the right side of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules having only overturned their European ban last month.
Signing either Milinkovic-Savic or Rabiot though could be a huge coup, adding technical quality, creative ability and raw talent to a fundamental area of the squad.
