Barcelona director of football Eric Abidal has responded to reports that he met with Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba for transfer talks recently.
Tuttosport claimed such a meeting took place between Abidal and Pogba in LA, with the Red Devils star currently on holiday after winning the World Cup with France earlier this summer.
While Pogba would no doubt make a fine signing for Barcelona in a position they need to strengthen, Abidal has supposedly told Mundo Deportivo that rumours of such talks taking place are false.

The Frenchman is said to have insisted Barca would approach any deal by the book and get in touch with Pogba’s club first before talking directly with the player.
Having lost Andres Iniesta this summer, the Catalan giants could do with a creative star like Pogba in their side, with the 25-year-old certainly not looking like fulfilling his potential at Old Trafford.
The former Juventus man is one of many to struggle to express themselves under the rigid and conservative tactics of Jose Mourinho, and it would not be altogether surprising if all parties involved felt a move was the best option.
Still, with just a week left of the Premier League transfer window, it seems highly unlikely there is time for a deal to go through now as United would have little opportunity to sign the replacement they’d need in midfield.
