Arsenal clinching £60m double transfer in coming days whilst offloading trio could give Unai Emery the squad he needs to challenge

Arsenal look on the face of it to have done most of their transfer window business by this stage after a busy start with five new names coming in earlier in the summer.

New Gunners boss Unai Emery has overseen signings of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi to give a much fresher look to a squad that needed a few big changes.

It could perhaps be slightly wishful thinking to expect more from Arsenal at this stage, though Emery himself has not ruled it out.

‘I am telling you that we’re speaking inside and we are okay. There is only a possibility that we sign someone if it’s a good opportunity,’ he is quoted by the Metro when asked about any potential late moves.

So here’s a look at two realistic signings the club could make before the deadline, as well as three names who may be heading for the Emirates Stadium exit door…

IN – Steven N’Zonzi

Linked as a £25million target for Arsenal by the Daily Mail, the Sevilla midfielder seems ideal for the north London giants’ needs right now.

The France international, a World Cup winner with Les Bleus this summer, would be a major upgrade on the likes of Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny in midfield, and would make a fine, experienced partner to go alongside the youthful Torreira.

If N’Zonzi really is going for such a low fee, it’s remarkable he hasn’t already been snapped up this summer, so Emery would do very well here to get this raid on his old club done in the coming days.

IN – Lucas Vazquez

Linked as a £35m target for Arsenal by Don Balon, Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez could certainly do a job out wide for the club this season.

The Spaniard has pace, skill and an eye for goal that would surely make him a significant upgrade on the likes of Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi out wide.

Still, with Real selling Cristiano Ronaldo this summer and yet to bring in a replacement, they may be reluctant to let another attacker go, even if Vazquez has largely been a squad player at the Bernabeu.

OUT – Danny Welbeck

As noted on the previous page, Vazquez would be a massive upgrade on Welbeck, whose time at the club must surely be up.

The England international simply hasn’t been able to get going since his move from Manchester United four years ago, and how many more chances is he going to get?

It’s surely time for Arsenal to sell Danny Welbeck

OUT – David Ospina

A clueless goalkeeper, David Ospina surely no longer has any place in this Gunners squad following the arrival of Bernd Leno.

The experienced Petr Cech should remain as a backup, and that gives Emery more than enough options to choose from between the sticks.

OUT – Lucas Perez

Finally, Lucas Perez also seems a sensible option for the exit door and all three of these names are mentioned by the Sun as being among those Emery could clear out.

Perez failed to make much of an impression at Arsenal in 2016/17 and then spent last season on loan, with his hopes of establishing himself at the Emirates surely now over as the club simply must aim higher.

If Emery can deliver just two more key additions to give himself more quality options in midfield and attack, whilst offloading some of the deadwood, this suddenly looks a massively improved Arsenal squad that could really challenge for major honours in 2018/19.
