With just three weeks to go until the new Serie A campaign begins, AC Milan are reportedly prepared to step up their transfer activity.
After finishing in sixth place last season, there were arguably two key areas in which the Rossoneri lacked the necessary quality and depth to simultaneously compete for a top four finish as well as in the Europa League.

With a lack of options behind favoured trio Giacomo Bonaventura, Lucas Biglia and Franck Kessie, coach Gennaro Gattuso often stuck with the same midfield trident with the likes of Manuel Locatelli and Riccardo Montolivo used sparingly for the most part.
In turn, bolstering the midfield is perhaps a priority this summer, and as per Calciomercato, via the paper edition of La Stampa, RB Salzburg’s Diadie Samassekou has emerged as a transfer target and could cost up to €15m.
The 22-year-old made 50 appearances in all competitions last season, establishing himself as a key figure for his side in the midfield in both a more defensive role and central position.
With that in mind, he could be a welcome addition for Gattuso, allowing him to rotate and see more competition for places in training to push his players on.
Another area in which Milan struggled was up front, as they managed just 56 goals in 38 league games, giving them the lowest scoring tally of the top seven sides in the standings.
With Andre Silva and Nikola Kalinic struggling for goals, youngster Patrick Cutrone emerged as the top scorer, but according to Calciomercato, Milan are working on bringing Gonzalo Higuain to the San Siro in order to provide a proven and prolific solution.
However, if they wish to convince the Argentine international over a move, it’s claimed that they will have to potentially offer a four-year contract worth €7m-a-season.
Given the 30-year-old has scored 146 goals in 251 games since moving to Italy in 2013, it could be a wise investment.
