Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on Napoli midfielder Jorginho, who has been heavily linked with Manchester City this summer.

The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe over the last few seasons, playing a key role in Napoli’s push for major honours under Maurizio Sarri.

With an ability to offer defensive protection in front of the backline along with the vision, passing range and technical quality to dictate the tempo of a game and set up attacks, he would be a top signing for any club.

According to Tuttosport though, it could be Chelsea who snap up the Italian international this summer, as it’s claimed that they will look to steal a march on rivals City by offering €60m for the midfield ace, which could also result in a breakthrough to see Sarri arrive at Stamford Bridge to replace Antonio Conte.

As noted above, Jorginho was fundamental to the style of play that Sarri adopted at Napoli, and so setting up a potential reunion at Chelsea could be an ideal scenario for the Blues.

From City’s perspective, it will be a setback if they miss out as Pep Guardiola relied heavily on Fernandinho last season with the veteran midfielder set to turn 34 next year.

In turn, coupled with the exit of Yaya Toure this summer, a long-term replacement is arguably high on the priority list for the Premier League champions who may feel as though they lack the quality and depth necessary in that department to compete on multiple fronts.

Jorginho would undoubtedly fit into Guardiola’s system and style of play given his composure and confidence on the ball, but time will tell if he’s bound for Manchester or London this summer.
