Good news, Liverpool: £87million star signals intent to join Reds with major decision

Liverpool may have been handed a significant boost in their transfer pursuit of Thomas Lemar with reports that he’s rejected a new contract offer from Monaco.

According to the Independent, the France international’s preferred next destination would be Anfield after snubbing the chance to sign a new deal with last season’s Ligue 1 champions.

Lemar would undoubtedly be a great fit at a top Premier League club, having shown himself to be a potentially world class attacking midfielder in his time with Monaco.

The 22-year-old also has his best years ahead of him and one can only imagine how far he could go under a manager like Jurgen Klopp, who has been known for developing young players and building exciting attack-minded teams.

Thomas Lemar to Liverpool transfer looks even more likely now

Klopp already has the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to choose from up front, but could do with Lemar as well after losing Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in the summer.

The Independent claim Liverpool failed with a £78million bid for Lemar in 2017, while Yahoo Sport recently claimed the player was likely to cost as much as £87m.

That report from Yahoo Sport also suggested Liverpool had an agreement with the player himself, so it all looks good for the Reds as he’s now seemingly also turned down a new contract at his current club.
