Arsenal are being linked with a surprise interest in sealing the transfer of Schalke midfielder Max Meyer as well as landing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day.
The Guardian have reported that the Gabon international looks set to complete his switch to the Emirates Stadium in what should prove a fine signing to replace Alexis Sanchez after his move to Manchester United.
On top of that, Sport Bild journalist Torsten Rumpf claims the Gunners could sign another Bundesliga star today as they battle with Barcelona for the signing of Meyer.

Meyer has long been regarded as a top prospect in European football after his breakthrough at Schalke, with whom he has just six months left on his contract.
It was recently announced that Schalke will also lose midfielder Leon Goretzka to Bayern Munich on a free next season, while Sead Kolasinac ended up at Arsenal in the same manner last summer.
Clearly, Schalke look even worse at handling their contracts than Arsenal, who sold Sanchez due to him having just six months left on his deal, while Mesut Ozil has still not signed despite heading towards the end of his contract this summer.
A creative midfield player, Meyer could be a useful addition at the Emirates to improve on the likes of Granit Xhaka in that department.
The 22-year-old looks to have a bright future despite his form taking a bit of a hit so far this season as he’s managed just one goal and no assists in the entire campaign so far.
