Manchester United are reportedly weighing up an offer for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, who is also a transfer target for Manchester City.
The Brazil international has shone in Ukraine and is now attracting interest from Europe’s big clubs, with Jose Mourinho identifying him as an ideal replacement for Michael Carrick, according to the Daily Record.
Elsewhere, the Independent also claim United and City are set to go head-to-head in a battle for Borussia Dortmund starlet Julian Weigl in the same position.
Both players seem absolutely ideal for the Premier League and both reports suggest United are in pole position for the pair.
For all City’s success this season, they may still lack that same pulling power of United due to the Red Devils’ tremendous history of success.
Midfield certainly seems an area of priority for Mourinho, with both Carrick and Marouane Fellaini out of contract in the summer while the likes of Ander Herrera and Daley Blind have also been linked with moves away.
Either one of Fred or Weigl would be very welcome at Old Trafford and it may even be that United are set to land both.
