Manchester United may hold an advantage over Manchester City in the transfer battle for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez at the moment, according to latest reports.
The Manchester Evening News suggest the Red Devils are prepared to offer Sanchez more money than City, who seem to be hoping the player will choose them on the basis of being more likely to win silverware at the Etihad Stadium.
The Chile international is heading towards the end of his contract with Arsenal, and can choose any club he likes if he decides to leave on a free transfer in the summer.
For now, however, United look to have some negotiation advantage over City, with the MEN claiming the Reds have been encouraged to hijack a deal for Sanchez.
This would be somewhat reminiscent of the way United pipped Chelsea to the signing of Romelu Lukaku in the summer, and this transfer would be another major statement.
City look like running away with the title this season, but if United could sign Sanchez it would be a real ego boost for Jose Mourinho and all concerned.
United notably signed star striker Robin van Persie from Arsenal back in 2012 and it played a big part in them winning the Premier League that season, and it’s easy to imagine a world class player like Sanchez having a similar impact.
