£40million star pushing for Arsenal transfer despite Liverpool talks, has already bought property in London

Riyad Mahrez has been linked with a transfer to Arsenal and Liverpool in recent times

Liverpool are reportedly in talks to seal the transfer of Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez, though he recently bought property in London and would supposedly rather join Arsenal instead.

The Algeria international has been one of the best attacking players in the Premier League in recent seasons, and has made a fine start to this campaign.

With eight goals and seven assists in all competitions, it’s little surprise to see Mahrez being linked with top clubs this January, particularly as Liverpool and Arsenal both need new players in attack.

Arsenal were recently linked by Le Buteur with Mahrez, while the Independent claimed Liverpool were looking into signing the 26-year-old as an alternative to Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

Meanwhile, the Metro have claimed Leicester could be open to selling Mahrez if they get the right offer, having held out for around £40million for the player when Roma were interested in him in the summer.

Riyad Mahrez favours Arsenal transfer over Liverpool

The latest from the Daily Express is that Liverpool are in talks over signing the 2015/16 PFA Player of the Year, but that the player himself would prefer a move to the Emirates Stadium and already has accommodation sorted in London.

It remains to be seen if that offer will in fact come along, but with previous reports of interest from the Gunners, it’s surely a no-brainer for Arsene Wenger now to try and hijack his move to Anfield.

With Alexis Sanchez nearing the end of his contract, Mahrez could be an ideal addition for Arsenal, though of course he’d also go some way to helping Jurgen Klopp replace Philippe Coutinho after his move to Barcelona this month.
