Man Utd set sights on €100m target to replace Ibrahimovic in summer

Have Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic fallen out?

Man Utd are reportedly plotting a move for another striker as they look to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who they expect will leave at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old proved a lot of his doubters wrong last season, scoring 28 goals in 46 appearances for the Red Devils as he helped the club on their way to three trophies.

Unfortunately for him and Jose Mourinho, he’s been limited to just seven outings so far this campaign as a serious knee injury at the back-end of last year has left him battling for full fitness.

With his contract also set to expire in the summer, the expectation is that he will leave, as per Yahoo Sport, with United already looking at potential candidates to fill the void that the Swede will leave behind.

It’s claimed that Torino striker Andrea Belotti is the main target for Man Utd, with the 24-year-old enjoying a prolific campaign with the Serie A outfit last season having scored 28 goals in 38 outings.

Injuries have been an issue this season as he’s managed seven in 18, but that doesn’t appear to have put United off as the report suggests that he’s still the name that’s top of the list.

However, should Mourinho be keen to land the Italian international, he will have to splash out €100m on him, as per his release clause, which ESPN confirmed exists in his current contract just over a year ago.

Torino owner Urbano Cairo spoke about said release clause as recently as this week, and so United will have to spend big if they wish to prise him away and take him to Old Trafford.

It remains questionable as to whether it’s a smart move though, as Belotti would seemingly offer many similar traits as Romelu Lukaku does, with the pair not entirely different. So, perhaps Man Utd would be better off spending their money more wisely on a target that could offer something different.
