Arsenal and Liverpool transfer target’s asking price slashed by £29million

Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp have differing managing styles and expectations

Arsenal and Liverpool look to have received some good transfer news today with reports that Monaco have slashed their asking price for Thomas Lemar.

The France international has been linked with both clubs this January after impressing in Ligue 1 and seems a necessary signing for both sides due to their issues in attack.

Liverpool have just lost Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, while Arsenal face the prospect of Alexis Sanchez moving on as he nears the end of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The Daily Mirror have claimed Lemar would likely cost around £90million, but the latest from France suggests that may not be the case.

According to RMC Sport, as translated by the Liverpool Echo, Monaco may now accept considerably less than that – a figure in the region of £61m.

The report also suggests Arsenal are ahead of Liverpool in the race for the 22-year-old at the moment, as Liverpool may postpone their interest in him until the summer.

Still, it remains to be seen if anything is close to being done, as Arsenal will likely only move for Lemar if Sanchez leaves.

The Guardian claim Manchester City have made a £20million bid for Sanchez, which does not yet appear to have been rejected, despite being a little on the low side, even for a player heading towards being a free agent.
